Abnormally lower MPV values may correlate with thrombocytopenia when it is because of impaired creation of megakaryocytes from the bone marrow, for example in aplastic anemia. A very low MPV may well reveal inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), for instance Crohn's disorder and ulcerative colitis.
